The 2010 census reported the population of
Dawson County was 13,833.

Lamesa is the county seat of Dawson County and covers 902 square miles.

Dawson County was founded in 1876, and was named for Nicholas Mosby Dawson, a soldier of the Texas Revolution.

Unemployment rate as of March 2013 was 6.7%.
