Solid Waste



This department is responsible to carry out or conduct various municipal solid waste management related services and support activities. Such services and activities include monitoring the overall implementation of the region's Solid Waste Management Plan, assisting the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) in implementing and monitoring, at the regional level, various municipal solid waste management programs, supporting (where applicable) regional and sub-regional waste advisory committees, formatting regional strategies that address various TCEQ priorities, and conducting a variety of solid waste related information and technical assistance activities for the region.

One of the purposes of this department is to further the accomplishment of the waste reduction and recycling goals of Senate Bill 1349, and Senate Bill 1051, and the TCEQ rules as they apply to the implementation of composting, waste reduction, waste diversion, and/or various recycling projects that are designed to reduced overall the amount of municipal solid waste disposed of by landfilling.

The department is responsible to manage and administer pass-through grant programs for Solid Waste Implementation.
