FirstNet Authority Coverage Enhancement Workshops

The First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet Authority) continues to move forward with its plans to expand FirstNet and enhance coverage where first responders need it, including in tribal, territorial, and rural areas. We will be hosting regional workshops across the state, as listed below, where we encourage attendance in person if possible. Final location details are still be worked out.

In the upcoming workshops, the FirstNet Authority will share areas of interest (AOI) across the state that would benefit from enhanced coverage as identified by both its qualitative model and public safety feedback from the past 18 months. Additionally, the FirstNet Authority will share specific coverage investment progress to-date for Texas.
To augment this discussion, we invite you to submit your specific coverage-related feedback via a geographic survey. Use the survey to draw your own “area of interest” that would benefit from FirstNet coverage enhancement and describe the associated need. Two items of note:
- There is no one-size-fits-all polygon for all use cases; however, if your AOI covers too large of an area, it will not be of substantive use to the FirstNet Authority. For reference, the FirstNet Authority-defined AOIs are on average 16 square miles or 11,000 acres.
- The survey allows you to draw one AOI at a time. Complete the survey a second time to document a second AOI, et cetera.
As we continue our commitment to enhancing FirstNet coverage across Texas and the nation, it is pivotal we hear from our first responders and incorporate your feedback accurately both in identifying additional AOIs and prioritizing the existing set.
Survey results submitted up to approximately one week before the scheduled meeting will be displayed in addition to the FirstNet Authority AOIs.
